Inner-city Concerts

Grants Pen, 15 Sep 2002

A rousing rendition of We wanna see Jesus lifted high (a banner that flies across Grants Pen) performed by the Upper Room Community Church Praise Team, opened the concert, which was followed by Lord we lift your name on high and a selection of other praise choruses. The children were dancing in the yard and singing along right from the start.

The choruses were followed by short performances by Prodigy and DJ Nickolas.

Pastor Ian Muirhead, who has been working in the community for some ten years, then gave a strong message. He emphasised to the people the urgency of accepting Jesus into their lives as they were facing death daily. He ended with an altar call to which a number of people responded.

The climax of the evening’s entertainment was a set by Mr Goddy Goddy—the crowd were stirred up and enjoyed both the music and lyrics, the content of which he was keen to make clear. He also gave his powerful testimony which he made very relevant to the challenges faced by the people of Grants Pen. The second alter call was made by Mr Goddy Goddy and a large proportion of the women and children in the audience went forward. He even went as far as issuing a challenge to the men who were hiding in the shadows—a few dared to respond by stepping out.
